The Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Liverpool John Moores University is seeking to appoint a Web Developer to join an exciting project combining data analytics, artificial intelligence, and database/web development. The objective is to deliver a system comprising a web-based user interface to be displayed on station screens, a cloud-based server to host the web, and a core data component that gathers/processes real-time data from different sources, as well as makes estimations on train time, train position etc. The system will be trial in a station near the end of the project.

You will act as the web developer for the project. You will develop a web platform to control and display real-time information about train movements. The website will be displayed on digital screens. The web platform will need to be highly secured to avoid information tampering. You will contribute to the development of both front end and back end but mainly the back end. You will also ensure that the web can be integrated and displayed on the chosen digital signage screen solutions.

You will join a research/development team comprising a project manager, yourself, a data analyst, a principal investigator to whom you will report, and two co-investigators who have developed the technologies on which this project will be based.

It essential that you have excellent web programming skills and experience working with web frameworks, software design, relational databases and version control. Experience of Agile software development processes and full-stack development would be advantageous. A strong interest in rail transport and knowledge in data analytics would be a plus.
