In 1825 we opened England’s first Mechanics’ Institute in Liverpool, teaching mechanics, arithmetic and engineering draftsmanship. In 1892 we made history again and opened England’s first Nautical College. Our Engineering disciplines have grown out of these landmark institutions, and we are one of the UK’s leading centres for mechanical, electrical and maritime engineering education. We have an outstanding reputation for producing world-leading research and have business partners across the world.

What we’re looking for
We are seeking an exceptional Senior Lecturer to join our dynamic school and help drive innovation in Electronics, Artificial Intelligence, Sensors, and Autonomous Systems. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire the next generation of engineers while contributing to cutting-edge research and knowledge exchange.
In this role, you will design and deliver high-quality teaching materials across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, ensuring students gain the skills and confidence to thrive in a rapidly evolving sector. You will play a key part in planning, designing, and developing programmes, taking responsibility for the management of teaching and supporting an outstanding student experience.
Your expertise will extend beyond the classroom. You will engage in high-quality research activity, producing impactful publications, and collaborate on professional and knowledge exchange initiatives that influence industry and practice. Administrative responsibilities will also form part of your contribution to the school’s success.
To succeed, you will hold a PhD or equivalent qualification, or have significant professional experience relevant to the discipline, and either possess a higher education teaching qualification or be committed to completing the LJMU PGCertLTHE programme within your first three years. You will bring deep expertise in Electronics, AI, Sensors, and Autonomous Systems, combined with strong knowledge of programming environments such as MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and TensorFlow. Your ability to teach cross-disciplinary subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels will be key, particularly across programmes in Electronic Engineering, Robotics and AI, and Mechanical Engineering. Experience in applied engineering contexts such as Embedded Systems, Simulation, Robotics, Applied Control, Machine Learning for Engineering Systems, and Engineering AI Applications is essential, along with a passion for delivering an outstanding student experience.
