Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a distinctive, unique institution, rooted in the Liverpool City Region and with a global presence. Our students and staff, past, present, and future, are the beating heart of our city and can be found in every corner of every industry and community. We couldn’t exist anywhere else and have shaped the city in which we belong. Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today.

At LJMU, we are committed to continuously enhancing the health and wellbeing of our students, staff and wider community. Our approach is underpinned by academic teaching and research, expert facilitation, and a strong commitment to placing the student experience at the heart of everything we do.

Our goals are to equip students with the skills they need to succeed, provide an outstanding experience beyond the curriculum, and create a positive impact across the city. We add value through meaningful community engagement, social inclusion, and a demonstrable commitment to sustainability in line with our Climate Change Plan.

This role supports the effective operation of the Sport Building alongside the delivery of our healthy lifestyle and physical activity programmes. You will play a key role in delivering an exceptional customer experience while driving engagement and participation.

The role will primarily operate within the gym and associated ‘Move’ programme delivery areas, contributing to a vibrant, inclusive and motivating environment that supports individuals to lead active, healthy lives.

About the role

You will support the delivery of our healthy lifestyle and physical activity programmes, contributing to the values and aims of our sport and wellbeing strategy. This includes proactively engaging with the University community, particularly those not yet connected to our services or partner offers, new starters, and individuals from underrepresented groups, ensuring inclusive access and meaningful participation opportunities.

The role will contribute to the delivery of Student Living & Physical Activity services, enhancing the student experience beyond the curriculum while creating a positive and lasting impact across the city.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues, activity providers and external partners to effectively signpost students, staff and the wider community to opportunities to be active, alongside the resources that support engagement. This will underpin the University’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) ambitions and contribute to key strategic priorities, including the advancement of physical wellbeing and the delivery of the wider Health & Wellbeing Strategy.

You will also support strong partnership working across the University, including collaboration with the Students’ Union (JMSU) to strengthen the connectivity between physical activity and sports services. In addition, the role will contribute to supporting performance sport pathways, working alongside academic colleagues and the High-Performance Unit (HPU) to provide a joined-up experience for student athletes.

In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction and development support as well as family-friendly policies.

This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and futures, by placing students at the heart of everything we do.

If you feel that this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU, we look forward to hearing from you.

LJMU values diversity and provides a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can fulfil their potential.

Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.
