Lecturer in Design & Illustration
Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a distinctive, unique institution, rooted in the Liverpool City Region and with a global presence. Our students and staff, past, present, and future, are the beating heart of our city and can be found in every corner of every industry and community. We couldn’t exist anywhere else and have shaped the city in which we belong. Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today.
We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time academic post in Design and Illustration to join us at the Liverpool School of Art and Creative Industries as part of the team delivering the Graphic Design & Illustration BA Hons programme.
The post requires you to undertake significant creative practice and scholarship as you contribute to the organisation, delivery and assessment of the BA programme and the wider academic life of the School, Faculty and University.
The school is looking for a creative practitioner with a strong understanding of both the historic context of Design and Illustration practice and its contemporary landscape, particularly exploring non-western voices and the decolonisation of the subject. You will be expected to engage, inform and inspire students in the development of their skills and understanding of their individual studio practice and particularly how it is underpinned by research and reflection, with a particular focus on critical academic writing and assessment.
The BA Graphic Design & Illustration programme at Liverpool John Moores University has been ranked in the top 10 Guardian and Complete University Guide University League Tables for art and design subjects, and the programme prides itself on developing authoritative creative practitioners with an understanding of the positioning and impact of their work on society and the environment.
The programme promotes traditional, digital and experimental approaches to design and illustration and supports this through engagement with nationally and internationally renowned designers and illustrators. The city of Liverpool is a vibrant place for students to study and supports the course as a hub for research and opportunities for students to work with prominent organisations and publishers on live projects.
Informal enquiries may be made to the Programme Leader, Andrew Hooper at a.hooper@ljmu.ac.uk
In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction and development support as well as family-friendly policies.
This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and futures, by placing students at the heart of everything we do.
If you feel that this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU, we look forward to hearing from you.
