Industry 4.0 Electronics Engineer (KTP Associate)

34 month fixed term post based at the United Automation premises in Southport but employed by Liverpool John Moores University.

Starting salary range £31-33,000 dependent on experience. Plus attractive personal development budget and the prospect of performance bonuses over the course of the project, as well as management and leadership training provided as part of the KTP.

United Automation are one of the UK’s leading Designers and Manufacturers of Industrial Power Control Products. United Automation and Liverpool John Moores University have collaborated to run a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project to implement key Industry 4.0 concepts (connectivity, real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, modularisation, DaaS) by developing smart Industry 4.0 ready power controllers to bring a step change in the company's output and revenue growth.

We are looking to appoint a graduate to run this project. The skills we are looking for include:

  • Masters/PhD degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Networking, Telecommunications, Power Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience of designing/developing electronic controllers/system engineering and/or product development for industrial applications.
  • Skills of using Altium Designer/BoardMaker3/Other appropriate PCB circuit design tool. Experience of implementing systems in large-scale heating industry would be advantageous. 
  • Knowledge and practical experience in the design, development, implementation and verification of hardware products.
  • Experience of Implementation in Industry 4.0/IoT sector would be desirable.
  • Experience of managing & implementing communication networks. Experience of using SPI, UART, I2C and other synchronous asynchronous protocols/IoT-enabled energy efficient technologies/protocols would be beneficial. 
  • Competent in programming with good skills in any one of the following (e.g. Java, Python, C++, C#, C, ASP.net) other languages.
  • Experience of writing system software and/or programing microcontrollers (e.g. Arduino, raspberry pi, etc.) is essential.
  • Good numerical, communication and report writing skills, and able to assimilate and present data with accuracy and attention to detail.
