This role is to provide strategic leadership of the Liverpool Research Institute for Climate and Sustainability (LiRICS). The Institute will provide a platform to integrate research and knowledge exchange (RKE) activity (projects, outputs, student development, impact, public engagement etc.) at LJMU in the area of climate and sustainability.

Internally, LiRICS will serve to provide intellectual space, structures and resource to document and develop RKE work across the university with a focus on growth and new opportunities. Externally, LiRICS will provide a clear and unified focus for the development of high quality, productive, collaborative partnerships that have real impact. Importantly, LiRICS will seek to evidence its transformational partnerships and work locally (including internally), nationally, and internationally.

You will need a PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area as well as currently holding a Readership or Professorial position in LJMU.  This is an Emolument of £8000 per annum.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Deliver and review, in collaboration with the PVC (RKE), Faculty PVCs, and Associate Deans RKE (or equivalent), a coordinated strategy for LiRICS.
  • Promote a culture of high-quality and impactful RKE within LiRICS enriched by academic activities which develop and diversify external income (e.g. supporting the preparation of relevant submissions to national and international funding councils and bodies).
  • Work with LiRICS network leads and Research and Innovation Services to map all climate and sustainability RKE activity across LJMU, feeding into the Times Higher Education Impact Awards application (UN SDGs).
  • Lead the production and dissemination of information to the internal climate/sustainability community across LJMU, including regular updates on new developments and successes and information about governance, ethics and training.
  • Maintain and develop external relationships with key local, national and international stakeholders, to advise on, facilitate, and broker new relationships and partnerships in the climate/sustainability area.
  • Liaise with the Doctoral Academy, Research and Innovation Services and relevant colleagues in Library Services to support postgraduate research students and relevant academic staff in their climate/sustainability-related research activity.

Anticipated interview date: Friday 15th November 2024

LJMU values diversity and provides a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can fulfil their potential.

Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.
